There's always a good girl and a bad girl in a movie like Jennifer's Body--but in this case the good girl is crazy and the bad girl is way, way evil. At least somebody thinks good girl Needy (Amanda Seyfried, from Mamma Mia!) is crazy: when the movie begins she's narrating from a psychiatric hospital, and the rest of the film is a flashback that explains her incarceration. It's all connected to longtime friend Jennifer (Megan Fox), a saucy high-school temptress, who mysteriously survives a horrific night out and transforms into a supernaturally powerful force with a taste for human blood. There's certainly some genre kick to this stuff, almost none of which is played straight--how could it be, with Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody penning the script? Yes, all those crackly, slang-peppered one-liners you loved (or hated) in Cody's Juno are back, with a vengeance. There's actually something more honest about the nastiness of the dialogue in Jennifer's Body, which at least doesn't try to corkscrew back into the heartwarming ambitions of Juno. Among the targets of Cody's satire are Needy's nice-guy beau (Johnny Simmons), a one-armed toupeed teacher (J.K. Simmons), and a satanic rock singer (Adam Brody). The raging hormones and bodily changes of teendom have always lent themselves to metaphorical usefulness in horror movies, but Cody doesn't ring many new changes on the device, beyond the brutal hilarity of her dialogue. That leaves us with showroom-ready Megan Fox, whose buffed sheen is just right for her soulless character. --Robert Horton

1 out of 5 stars I want my 102 minutes and 14.99 BACK!!   March 6, 2010

Wow, this is the SADDEST excuse for a movie! Slow running, and so far out there that I think the director was Puffing the magic dragon as he sat in his chair! Do yourself a favor, if this is all there is to rent in the video store, go home and get rest, as that would be a better way to spend your time!

2 out of 5 stars Jennifer's Body is Hot!...The Movie is Not!   March 5, 2010

I've got a list of movies to watch for the 53 (to date) of my fellow Amazon Reviewers that gave Jennifer's Body 4 or 5 stars. Because if you gave Jennifer's Body 4 or 5 stars, there aren't enough stars for you to give the movies on my Amazon Listmania List of 19 Flicks Guaranteed To Leave A Permanent Impression (see link as the first comment to this review).

I mean really, 5 stars for Jennifer's Body? Teehee. That's a doozy! Jennifer's Body had a few good scares; it had some witty lines and dialogue. It even had Megan (what a) Fox. But overall it was just dumb. Director Karyn Kusama was able to put together some cool scenes and a potentially neat story. But her ability to weave it together in a believable way failed miserably. And I think Jennifer's Body was supposed to be funny--like dark comedy funny--at times, but that was lost on me too.

The flaws are just too plentiful to start listing in this story about a girl who becomes possessed after getting too close to a Satan worshipping rock band. Let's just say that after watching Jennifer's Body you might think that the 80's B Horror movies that you're so glad are gone may unfortunately be trying to make a revival.

I'll tell you one group of folks that should stay away--far away--from this movie are the folks affected by or familiar with the 2003 tragic fire in Rhode Island at The Station night club. There is an early scene in this movie that is eerily reminiscent of that horrible fire. I'm sure that Director Kusama had no intension of mocking or making light of that incident in this film, but the folks in Rhode Island may not agree.

Searching for a real 4 or 5 star movie? Check out my list...not Jennifer's Body.

I'm a horror fan and I thought I'd give Jennifer's body a try. I wasn't expecting much but what I got was far less. This movie is borderline incoherent at times and stupid from start to finish (I must admit I fast forwarded the last half hour). The worst part about it is not how dumb it is, but that it thinks it's so smart. You can tell that the screenwriter actually thought there was some legitimate social commentary going on here. The dialogue in this flick is some of the most idiotic I've ever encountered. It's cringe worthy at times and will insult your intelligence at every turn. Avoid at all costs. Utter crap.

Probably like a lot of people I wasn't expecting much from this movie but I was happily surprised: this is a fun movie! I'd consider a "lite" horror movie with a lot of funny lines in it. It's not a tongue-in-cheek horror movie, but it's not deadly serious either. Just the right amount of horror and comedy and story to keep you moving along. Is it brain surgery? No. But it is a good time and I think I'm going to watch it a second time.

5 out of 5 stars It was.........   February 27, 2010

......good! (???)
Yeah, I don't believe I'm typing this either.
I think like everyone out there I just couldn't stop rolling my eyes when I first saw the previews for this movie.
Megan Fox as a vampire.
Oh joy, how original, how ground breaking.
How....stupid of me not to give it at least a fair chance.

My fellow Amazon friend Ron told me to watch this and I almost spit my diet beverage all over the keyboard.
Ron telling me to rent this.....this utter and complete trash?
I thought he was joking.
So I did and.....it's good.
I'm not joking, it's not even good in a "It's so bad it's good" kind of way.
It's just simply the best "B" movie in the horror/comedy genre I've ever seen.
Horror/comedy really isn't my thing so for me to enjoy this is saying quite a bit about the movie.
I've seen movies like "Drag me to Hell" and it's just not my thing.

Ok, what was so good about "Jennifer's Body"?
Great acting. (Still can't believe I'm typing this.)
Great directing, a myriad of nice little touches the director added to the film (childhood flashbacks, etc...)that really increase the likeability of the film.
Childhood flashbacks can and are usually used to cover for lack of a story but they work really well here.
The FX were done well but not over done.
And the one thing I liked about this movie is the one thing I can't go into...the ending.
Horror movies usually get the ending right or screw it up royally.
"Jennifer's" ending was just PERFECT.

What was bad?
It's still a "B" movie but really?
It's not trying to be anything BUT a "B" movie.
Other than that......there was one thing that bothered me throughout the ENTIRE movie that if the ending has not resolved it, it would have drastically affected how I would have rated the film.
But like I said, I'm not going to ruin the ending.

Let's wrap this up.
"Jennifer's Body" is probably THE BEST horror/comedy I have ever seen.
Granted there's not that many movies in this genre but coming from "Transormers" Megan Fox I was expecting something so bad that it bordered on "Showgirls" badness.
What I got was like I said, one of the best "B" movies I've ever seen.
"Jennifer's Body" comes......
Highly Recommended.
