Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com Call it Kolchak: The Night Stalker, The College Years or Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Boys, but the horror series Supernatural delivers some of the most satisfying small-screen scares in recent memory. The premise is deceptively simple: brothers Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki from Gilmore Girls and Jensen Ackles, both appealing) travel the darker corners of the American landscape in search of their father, who's gone missing while hunting the malevolent forces that lead to the death of their mother. In the course of their search, the siblings encounter a host of otherworldly creatures, including vampires, ghosts, and witches, as well as such distinctly American phenomena as the urban-legend favorite the Hook ("Hookman"), monsters from Native American mythology ("Wendigo"), and fearful figures from children's games ("Bloody Mary"). Supernatural's integration of elements from American pop culture and folklore, combined with its skilled cast and crew (creator/co-writer Erik Kripke delivered 2005's Boogeyman, while director/executive producer David Nutter is a veteran of The X-Files and Millennium), and better-than-average attempts at atmosphere and suspense place the series well above the other spookshow programs that arrived on networks at about the same time (Invasion, Night Stalker), and should hold considerable appeal for fans of frightful fare. The six-disc set contains all 22 episodes of the debut season, with commentary by Ackles and Padalecki on "Phantom Traveler" and Nutter, Kripke, and producer Peter Johnson on the pilot episode; two making-of documentaries (one on the show itself, and the other on its stars), as well as a brace of unaired scenes and a gag reel round out the set. For those with DVD-ROM capabilities, the set also includes a link to a web site which offers a sneak preview at season 2 and the pilot script, among other bonus features. --Paul Gaita

The Best Show on Broadcast Television February 27, 2010 Donald (Ohio) -Supernatural: The Complete First Season Review
(by an avid Supernatural fan)
What a great show, airing since 2005, it has survived The WB/UPN merger into The CW and still is consistently the best show on broadcast television for me. Now, I recently discovered the show "Lost" as well (which I highly recommend for fans of Supernatural) and it could be argued as the best show on TV, but I have been with Supernatural from the beginning and am an avid supporter. The thing about this season is that it has more of a classic feel to it compared to the newer ones on The CW today. In Season 1, Dean and Sam are both very inexperienced at hunting and what I like to call "rookies" at the job. One of the best parts of this Season 1 DVD package is the exclusive commentary with Jensen Ackles (Dean) and Jared Padalecki (Sam) on Disc 1 - Episode 4: Phantom Traveler. The actors talk about filming and the on and off camera that they had developed at that point in the first season of filming. The main plot (not to give too much away for those of you who haven't yet watched the show) of the first season focuses on the brothers (Dean and Sam) objective to find their father and find the creature who killed their mother when they were children. I got this used for a very cheap price from the Amazon seller: Go Hastings, out of Texas and it was in great quality. This season 1 DVD Package is well worth this price.
Highly Recommended (5 Stars)
Customer Service February 12, 2010 K. Pabst (Altoona PA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased a set of DVD's for the first season of Supernatural as a gift for Christmas. When the DVD's were played, #2 (out of 6) played for about 10 minutes and then quit. There is a huge scratch on the back of it. I purchased the 'new' set instead of a used set. According to Amazon's return policy, since the plastic wrap is removed, then I can only get half of the return price. I searched the website and it stated that if you had any problems, then call the customer service number. I looked all over and could not find the number. I understand they are trying to protect themselves from people copying DVDs and then returning them. However, their policy screws the folks that actually have a faulty product. I will try looking for the number 1 more time. I would recommend to anyone wanting to buy a set of DVDs to buy them from a local supplier that would give easier and better 'recourse' for solutions to problems.
A Super First Season of a Super Show February 6, 2010 Juan M. Carpio (Irving, TX USA, but originally from Lima, Peru) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Supernatural and Dexter are my favorite TV shows. The first season of Supernatural shows you the premise of what the story is going to be: two brothers whose mother was killed by a demon and whose father became a hunter of the evil teamed-up again after a few years of trying to live a 'normal' life because dad is missing. What I really like about this show is that the stories are well developed and you actually learn about different spirits from diverse mithologies (Christian, Eastern, Native American, Indian, etc.). It's not just a stranger mix.

A Worth-While Purchase February 2, 2010 R. Gordon 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Supernatural is a great example of acting and writing at their best. The plot and characters are fully developed, there's plenty of action, and the actors work together very well. The show is simultaneously scary and smart, and the acting keeps everything feeling natural - the witty lines and quick comebacks don't sound like they're read straight from the script. As a fairly recent Supernatural fan, I've started watching the show from the beginning. As soon as I finished the 1st season I knew I wanted my own copy, and as I rewatch the episodes I can enjoy them just as much the second and third times as I did the first. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase, and I plan to buy the other seasons as soon as possible!
Amazing February 1, 2010 Andrew Rails (Hillsboro ,KS USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of the most amazing series I've ever viewed.
Every episode is like watching a short monster movie.
The special effects and acting are top-notch.
I highly recommend this series for anyone who is into fantasy, scifi, or horror genres.
